Dr. Arthur Jorgensen (1928–2011)
The teaching profession lost a passionate friend recently when Dr. Arthur Jorgensen, of Edson, Alberta, passed away on February 19. Art was involved in education for more than 50 years. He was very active in the Alberta Teachers’ Association, the Math Council of the Alberta Teachers’ Association, and the Canadian Teachers’ Federation. He was a Project Overseas participant six times and volunteered on many community boards. He was active in the Kinsmen Club, the K-40 and in the political arena as well. When notified of his passing, ATA President Carol Henderson said, “The contribution that Art made to the teaching profession, especially mathematics, must be acknowledged. He was interested in and up to date on educational issues until the end.” She added, “Relationships are key to success in teaching, and Art was a master at maintaining relationships with friends and colleagues.”
